A Room with a Cat

This painting is inspired partially by one of my frequent dreams with an elegant room. Based on a number of sketches, I created a painting with different colors to manipulate a dream room. I used groups of complementary colours such as green walls vs red painting hanging on the wall and a cat in orange; orange-red chair vs cyan carpet with green and orange patterns; marble mantelpiece with an ivory craving at top vs violet and grey fireplace. The carpet’s patterns resemble an abstract painting (or can you imagine a water pond with a lot of swimming fishes). The painting on the left wall refers to a portion of Henri Matisse’s famous painting, “Red Studio”.
Where it's been: The painting was showcased at the Salon 17 exhibition at Propeller Art Gallery (2023).
